The 3 Funniest Movies of 1990

The year 1990 might not have been a time of laughter for many, especially those living in Kuwait. However, Hollywood still churned out some decent comedy movies to try and lighten things up. I was only eight years old so I was pretty goofy and light hearted already and these movies were the type to just help keep the good vibes flowing. These are my picks for the best comedy movies releases in the year 1990.

  1.  BIRD ON A WIRE: Action would be the first genre one might place this in, but as an action comedy it really went for some laughs. True, they are not blow milk out of your nose types of laughs, but lead star Mel Gibson was entertaining to watch. Regardless of what you might think he harbors against the Jewish people, on camera, Mel Gibson has undeniable charisma and comedic energy; star power. Bird On A Wire was filled with his charm as a lovable scoundrel coming back into the life of his once lost love as played by Goldie Hawn. They go on the run from the baddies and the classic love hate chemistry between them works well.
  2.  PROBLEM CHILD: Take the evil child formula from horror movies and change it to fit a comedy and you've got one fun new brand of evil. Problem Child was quirky and silly, yet fully enjoyable as this kid went from extreme to extreme causing mayhem for his new adoptive parents. I found in hilarious that the kid was pen pals with a prison inmate known as the Bow Tie Killer, played by none other than Kramer (Michael Richards) from Seinfeld. Funny how two of the comedies in my list of the best from 1990 feature celebrities that have later gone on to be involved in scandals involving their potential racism. Of course, in the end Problem Child circles around to the child having some heart and finding a loving bond with his new father, as played by John Ritter. Got to love a movie where in the end a "good luck prune" helps save the day.
  3.  HOME ALONE: Home Alone topped my list of the best family movies from 1990 and it also takes the cake for comedy in that year. I enjoyed Home Alone immensely as a kid and it still stands strong today. The physical comedy of the booby traps that those hapless burglars were tortured with really brought the house down; well, almost.
