Grownups was written by Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf and directed by Dennis Dugan. The movie is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes. The stars of the show are Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider. Salma Hayek also has a fairly large role in the movie as Adam Sandlers wife.
Despite only having a 5.4 out of 10 rating on IMDB.com I actually found this movie to be quite funny. A lot of the movie was predictable and the ending was cliché but I still got some laughs and had a good time. There was no shortages of laughs in the theatre I saw this movie in.
The movie starts out with 5 young men in the last few seconds of their championship basketball game. The boys win the first and only championship for their coach "Buzzer" played by Blake Clark. Fast forward 30 years to when the 5 men receive word that coach Buzzer has passed away. The 5 men each have very different lives and personalities. Of the 5 men only the character played by David Spade is single. David is your typical bachelor always looking for the best way to get some action. Adam Sandler plays the rich father of two spoiled brat sons and the husband to Salma Hayek. Salma is absolutely beautiful in this movie as she is in every movie she plays in. Rob Schneider is into older women and has multiple daughters from multiple women. Two of his daughters are gorgeous while one is not so pleasant to look at. The character played by Kevin James is the normal role Kevin plays, the typical role of a hungry fat guy. Chris Rock plays the role is a submissive husband who is under appreciated and walked on by his wife and mother in law.
Even though the movie is a comedy, there are some lessons learned by the end of it. Friendship, compassion, betrayal, compromise and cheating are all topics brought up in the movie.
Because of other rating I have seen online on this film I have a hard time recommending this movie to everyone. I certainly enjoyed it, but it appears that there is a large rift on the opinion of this movie. If you want a few laughs and like the actors in this movie then give it a shot.
