Review on the New Movie: Vampires Suck

Any popular movie has the chance of being made fun of, in the form of a parody. Well, this time, it was the Twilight saga being made fun of. The parody, Vampires Suck, opened in theaters on August 18, 2010. Unfortunately, many of the funniest moments are given away in the trailors. While there are several other very funny scenes, much of the rest of the movie is very low-brow humor.

Jenn Proske, who plays the outcast teenage girl, Becca, does a very good job at mimicking Kristen Stewart's "Bella". She gets everything right, from the tone of her voice, her body movements, and her nervous ticks, which actually get mentioned in Vampires Suck.

Chris Riggi's character, Jacob White, is almost an annoying character, meant to be funny, but failing horribly. As there are a few funny scenes with him, most of which make fun of the "Teen Wolf" Jacob, in a very repetative and irritating way.

And finally, we have Matt Lanter, who plays the vampire, Edward Sullen. While being a pretty funny character, the weird placement of the vampire fangs irritated me the entire movie! The acting was alright, quite funny at times, but I just couldn't get past the vampire fangs set towards the back of the mouth.

While they make fun of the movie, they attempt to stay on the same story line as Twilight and New Moon, with several scenes needing to be altered and removed for screen time. A few added extras, such as Becca's huge Arizona cactus, make the movie that much funnier.

Now, my personal opinion of Vampires Suck, is that it is a tasteful, but at times low-brow humor, parody, that does a good job picking fun at the movies without being too rude. I believe that any Twilight saga fan could find humor in this movie. However, would I recommend paying the ticket price to see it in the theaters? No, simply because it is a parody, and there is no knew story lines, and it's not an A+ comedy. My personal opinion is to wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it through Redbox, or something similar. I would also not recommend seeing it unless you have at least seen Twilight, as many if the jokes may not be understood.

My rating of Vampires Suck= B-
