After amassing a rather large collection of VHS movies, like many other old collections associated with electronics, VHS tapes are just about obsolete. Not only do they take up a considerable amount of space, but they are also no longer wanted because of newer and better options. Like many other people, I prefer Blu-ray or DVDs to old VHS movies. This presents a dilemma. Although the VHS movies are still in like-new condition and cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars for an entire collection, they are nearly impossible to sell. However, they are far too good to throw away. Why not donate old VHS movies to organizations that are willing to take them? Consider the following places to donate old VHS movies, and give them to worthy recipients if they are still in good working condition.
Donate to a Homeless Shelter
Homeless shelters that provide temporary housing for families might be in need of various forms of entertainment for residents, and this includes old VHS movies. Call local homeless shelters and other related centers, and ask if they have a need for old VHS movies. They might be happy to add them to their library.
Donate Children's Programs to a Daycare
Many daycare centers run on limited budgets, and some still use VHS movies since equipment and media is too costly to replace. They rely on people willing to donate. Call local daycare centers and ask if they can use old videos for children. Chances are they will graciously accept the donation.
Donate to a Local Library
Most libraries have a media center and lend out DVDs, CDs, and old videos, and some have extra shelf space. Donate old videos to local libraries instead of throwing them away. They will still be enjoyed by those using video recorders, and the library might be happy to accept them. This is a great way to donate. Alternately, they might put old VHS movies out for sale along with books and other items to raise money for the library.
Donate to a Senior Care Center
Before tossing away old videos, donate them to senior care centers willing to take them. Residents are often treated to movies in common areas the centers, and they would be thrilled to have old video movies. Chances are the residents will appreciate them more than any one else.
