Partying and Pandas: Major Movie Releases from Memorial Day

Many of us haven't even recuperated from the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie yet, and here comes the next batch of summer movies! Actually, "The Hangover II" might be the perfect remedy for those of us still swooning from our latest cinematic voyage with Captain Jack Sparrow.

The much-anticipated sequel to 2009's "The Hangover" brings the original cast back together, but this time, they wake up in Bangkok. Adults (and I do mean, adults) who need a precursor to the hijinks in store need only watch Bradley Cooper's recent interview with Conan O'Brien; Cooper not only previews a movie clip, but tells a NSFW, crazy story about the cast's experiences in Bangkok that you'd expect to happen in the actual movie.

"Bridesmaids" might try, but there's just no duplicating the hysterical wackiness that was "The Hangover," especially once you realize that Zach Galifianakis is its secret weapon. The eccentric Mr. G has built a breakout career on playing the kind of goofball we haven't enjoyed since Mr. Bean, and makes any movie more entertaining.

Prepare for more Kung-foolishness: To the delight of youngsters, the other big release this weekend is the return of Jack Black's blubbery bear, in "Kung Fu Panda 2." There is little doubt that by Monday, many American children will be bouncing around their homes and yelling "Skidoosh!"

The entire voice-over cast returns for the "Kung Fu Panda" sequel, adding Gary Oldman as a sinister villain who threatens to take over China and destroy Kung Fu. Oldman, who lately has been playing good guys in Harry Potter and Batman films, also has a history of adeptly playing the villain.

Many of us remember his performances in "Dracula," "The Fifth Element," and more recently, "The Book of Eli," but may not realize he is in demand as a voice actor for video game titles as well. Among others, Oldman voices recurring characters in the "Legend of Spyro" and "Call of Duty" franchises.

Whether you are an adult or a child, and whether your inclinations are for partying or for pandas, there will be entertainment for you at the movies this week!
